Scope and Content

Fonds consists of personal and political records of Peter Heenan. Political records include printed material, such as: a copy of the House of Commons Debates from June 18, 1925 to February 18, 1927, and the Senate Debates for June 8, 1926, March 16, 1927, and March 24, 1927; reprints of Peter Heenan's speeches in the House of Commons, entitled Unemployment, Winnipeg Strike, Reply to Mr. Manion, Reply to Speech from the Throne, Imperial Economic Conference Trade Agreements, Unemployment and Farm Relief; newspapers and newspaper clippings containing information about Peter Heenan; and commissions appointing Peter Heenan as a Member of the Executive Council of Ontario, and as Minister of Labour for Ontario.

Political records also include transcribed material concerning pulpwood, forest products, and collective bargaining. The material regarding pulpwood contains copies of telegrams concerning timber rights, notes of Speeches in the House of commons, a report, and petitions. Forest products material consists of a bound file entitled "Proceedings of a Conference called by Hon. Peter Heenan, Minister of Lands and Forests, Ontario, of all interested in the forest Products Industry, held in the Parliament Buildings Toronto, March 12, 1940." Material regarding collective bargaining includes various drafts of the Collective Bargaining Act of 1943, a draft of the Trade Union Act for Ontario, and copies of letters from workmen's unions to Peter Heenan as Minister of Labour.

Personal records include telegrams, scrapbooks of invitations, programmes, and place cards regarding activities in Toronto, Ottawa, and in England during the Coronation in 1937. Fonds also contains photographs, including a portrait of Heenan, a photograph of Heenan with Prince Edward and Prince George in 1927, and photographs of Heenan at signings of the Old Age Pension Act.
