Fonds consists of records created and/or accumulated by Alvin Curling during his career at the provincial legislative as Member of Provincial Parliament for Scarborough-Rouge River, previously Scarborough North. It documents his tenure as Minister of Housing, Minister of Skills Development, Liberal Housing Critic and Speaker of the House and includes material related to Curling's work with the Scarborough North Provincial Liberal Association in preparing for elections. It also contains material related to his pre-political career.
Included are Curling's scheduling records, briefing notes, correspondence files, subject files, speech files and constituency office records. These records are often interrelated, with records related to similar events appearing in more than one series.
The types of records include agendas, background information, bulletins, contact information, correspondence, date books, daily schedules, exhibits, financial records, invitations, issues, itineraries, a journal agenda, maps, news releases, newspaper articles, newsletters, notes, pamphlets, photographs, publications, reference material, reports, scheduling and event summaries, submissions, speech notes, travel documents, photographs and moving image records, among other related records.

Jamaican-born Alvin F. Curling represented the Ontario riding of Scarborough North, later Scarborough-Rouge River, from 1985 to 2005 as a Liberal MPP. He served as Minister of Housing, Minister of Skills Development, and opposition critic before being elected Speaker of the Legislature. From 2005 to 2006, Curling served as Canada's ambassador to the Dominican Republic.

The records received from Alvin Curling in 1991 and 2000 were transferred to the Archives of Ontario from Curling's Queen's Park office. Curling may have inherited the earlier Liberal Housing Critics' files from his predecessors in that position.
Records associated with the Ontario Liberal Party are held at Queen's University Archives in Kingston, Ontario.
