Series consists of benchbooks created by Mr. Justice Sheard while serving as a County Court judge (1977-1984), a District Court judge (1984-1989), and judge of the Ontario Court (General Division), later known as the Ontario Superior Court of Justice (1989-1997).
Benchbooks are handwritten trial notes taken by the judge while sitting on the bench in civil or criminal trials. Typically, they include place and date of trial, names of the parties, and the judge's precis of the evidence submitted by each witness. Usually they also include the verdict in the case.
Mr. Justice Sheard arranged his benchbooks in chronological order.
