Scope and Content

Fonds consists of records created and accumulated by the Canadian Peace Research Institute (CPRI).

Included are files generated by the CPRI, Peace Research Abstracts Journal files, and records concerning Alan and Hanna Newcombe's volunteer activities. CPRI files include: Records of the Committee to form a World Constitution; files of CPRI President Norman Alcock; CPRI publications; and Records of the Summer School for Peace Research. The Peace Research Abstracts Journal files include: Administrative records of the Peace Research Abstracts Journal; Peace Research Abstracts Journal Co-editor's files; Hanna Newcombe's files; Peace Research Review records; Peace Research Abstracts Journal - articles submitted for publication; and Peace Research Abstracts Journal and Peace Research Review.The records of Alan and Hanna Newcombe volunteer activities concern the Consortium on Peace Research, Education and Development, Canadian Peace Research and Education Association, and the World Federalists of Canada.

Fonds also includes Publications concerning the peace movemend and the correspondence of Norman Alcock. Fonds also includes CPRI sound and moving image records. Included are sound recordings of speeches, interviews, promotions of the Canadian Peace Research Institute and general peace initiatives. Also included are promotion films for the Canadian Peace Research Institute.

The Canadian Peace Research Institute was founded in 1961 for the purpose of engaging in research into the causes and prevention of war.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
The records were donated to the Archives of Ontario in 1972 by Norman Alcock and by Hannah and Alan Newcombe in 1977. Additional records were donated by Patricia Alcock in 1980, 1984 and 1985.
