Scope and Content

Fonds consists of records created and accumulated by the Toronto Field Naturalists Club.

Included are records of the President of the Club, administrative records, correspondence, committee records, publications, agendas and minutes of board of directors meetings, financial records, and general subject files.

Subject files contain information on conservation issues in the province as well as in the Toronto area. Province wide issues include the preservation of wetlands, the creation of parks, the expansion of highways, and environmental policy. Issues relevant to the Toronto area include development on the Toronto waterfront, protection of ravines, the creation of parks, and developments within the city. Other records document club activities such as editing the newsletter, organizing outings, and the creation of the Jim Baillie Nature Reserve.

Also included are records of subsidiary clubs, including the Toronto Junior Field Naturalists Club (constitution, minutes, clippings and copies of their newsletter) and the Toronto Field Biologists Club (minutes and meeting notices).

Fonds also contains a video screening copy of a television program produced in 1991 entitled The Nature Connection with David Suzuki. This production profiles Dr. Suzuki leading a group of children on twelve field trips to discover different aspects of the environment and they learn how each individual is connected to nature. Also included in the fonds are photographs depicting Toronto Field Naturalists club outings.
