Scope and Content

Fonds consists of records created and accumulated by the Britnell family, first of Oxfordshire, England and later of Toronto, Ontario.

Records accumulated by William Britnell include a program for a banquet held in honour of Sir Wilfred Laurier at Massey Hall, Toronto, Ontario (1906), souvenir of enrolment from the Methodist Church 20th Century Thanksgiving Fund (1901), and rent books for two years spent in Southampton, England from 1920 to 1922.

Records of George William Britnell include his St. George's Society of Toronto certificate, correspondence, documents acquired on a Cunard Steamship Company Limited family trip to England in 1922, as well as studio photographs of George William and Annie Britnell.

Fonds includes records concerning the Britnell family business such as business cards, a photograph of company machinery, and photographs of the Summerhill CNR railway station and construction site.

Other items included are: postcards of Burnt River, Ontario; photographs of the Malton airport and Frontier Mason Builders Association; photographs of a women's gathering in the vicinity of the Sunnyside Bathing Pavilion; as well as a photograph of a late nineteen century office interior.

Administrative History or Biographical Sketch

The Britnell family originate from Chinnor in Oxfordshire, England, but immigrated to Toronto, Ontario in 1881, where they were the owners of a concrete business.
