The photograph depicts thirteen hockey players in Beaverton, Ontario standing outdoors and wearing costumes and masks. The scene is identified on the reverse of the photograph as a Burlesque Hockey Match featuring Old Maids versus Old Bachelors. All players are identified by name. The photograph is dated January 1898.

The photograph was donated by Brenda Brady to the Archives of Ontario in 2009 on behalf of her late mother, Mrs. Roberta June (Abbie) Brady of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Brenda Brady's grandfather, Robert Abbie, and great-uncle, William Abbie, are featured in the photograph.
