Custodial History

The records of the Ontario dairy associations were created and gathered by members of the associations, possibly secretaries such as Mr. S. L. Joss, who served as secretary of the Ontario Cheese Producers' Association and Canadian Dairy Farmer's Federation; Roy F. Lick who served as Secretary-Manager of the Ontario Whole Milk Producers' League; J.C. Weaver who was Secretary-Treasurer of the Milk Producers' Co-ordinating Board and Harold Martin who served as Secretary for the Ontario Milk Producers' Co-ordinating Board and Secretary of the Provisional Milk Marketing Board. In 1965, when the Ontario Milk Marketing Board (OMMB) was created from the amalgamation of many of the Ontario dairy associations, the records of these associations were transferred to the OMMB. In 1995, when the OMMB merged with the Ontario Cream Producers' Marketing Board, the Dairy Farmers of Ontario (DFO) was created and additional records were transferred to the new organization. In 2005, the DFO transferred to the Archives of Ontario the records from dairy organizations predating the DFO as well as records from the Belleville Cheese Exchange.
