Scope and Content

Fonds consists of textual, photographic, sound and moving image materials created and received by the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario.

Included in the fonds are general files pertaining to day-to-day Party organizational activities. Such material includes minutes, budgets, correspondence, financial statements, pamphlets, direct mailings, surveys, poll results, press clippings and reports regarding riding associations, elections, itineraries, campaigns, Party youth organizations, Party funding, caucus, Cabinet, conventions and annual meetings of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario.

Fonds includes photographs pertaining to party activities. Subjects include portraits of Ontario Progressive Conservative candidates, often with biographical sketches including place and date of birth, education, hobbies, family life, employment experience and political career. Also includes file photographs of Progressive Conservative Party officials, cabinet ministers and candidates, as well as photographs of Party annual meetings, the 1979 Ontario Progressive Conservative Association of Women Conference, and the 1967 Progressive Conservative National Leadership Convention. Photographs from campaigns of Robert Stanfield, Roy McMurtry, William Davis and Allan Lawrence are included. Approximately 105 negatives are present, depicting portraits of Progressive Conservative candidates, as well as of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Association of Women Regional Conferences, and of William Davis. As well, there are photographs, negatives and contact prints of William Davis' activities during the 1971 Ontario provincial election campaign. Also included in the fonds are colour slides, negatives and contact prints depicting the 1985 Progressive Conservative leadership convention. Other slides in the fonds pertain to Progressive Conservative MPPs.

Fonds also includes sound and moving image materials, including film footage relating to the election campaigns of 1971, 1975, 1977, and 1981. Other footage pertains to the opening of sessions of the Legislature, speeches, trips, Christmas and New Year's messages. Audio materials also deal with campaigns, as well as with freetime political broadcasts, conference recordings and radio advertisements. As well, four multimedia productions are included, consisting of slide-tape programs produced by the Party for use by party members and prospective candidates. Three of the programs deal with political canvassing, with the fourth being a recruitment program for the Progressive Conservative Youth Association.
