Scope and Content

Fonds consists of the official records of Amaranth Township, including Council Minutes and By-laws, 1852-1962; Assessment and Collectors Rolls, 1856- 1967; and miscellaneous municipal documents, 1858-1971.

Administrative History or Biographical Sketch

The Township of Amaranth, Dufferin County, Ontario, was incorporated through a county By-law effective January 2, 1854 under the terms of the Baldwin Act, Chapter 81, Canada Statutes, 1849.

Council Minutes and By-laws are closed for conservation reasons; use self service microfilm, MS 670. Access to School Census records is governed by the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. Requests for access to records 100 years old or less must be submitted in writing to the Information and Privacy Unit of the Archives of Ontario.
