Scope and Content 

 

Fonds consists of records created and received by CUPE Ontario as well as by CUPE Ontario's predecessor, the Ontario Division of the National Union of Public Employees.

Fonds includes minutes of the Executive Board, including financial statements, executive member rosters, and committee reports. Also included is correspondence from the President and other officials of CUPE Ontario, as well as pamphlets, clippings, publications, newsletters and photographs. Fonds also contains material pertaining to strikes and defence funds, briefs and policies, political action files, convention kits, and various union committee files.

Fonds also includes 10 photographs pertaining to conventions, annual meetings, protests and a picnic.

Additionally, the fonds contains three posters pertaining to free collective bargaining, CUPE's twenty-fifth anniversary, and a CUPE promotinal poster. A number of the photos have photographic studio stamps on the reverse.

 

Administrative History or Biographical Sketch 

 

CUPE Ontario establishes provincial policies for Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) union locals in Ontario, assists in implementing national policies at the provincial level, and acts as a co-ordinating body for the locals within a province.

Immediate Source of Acquisition 

 

Fonds was donated to the Archives of Ontario in two accessions, in 1990 and in 1996 by the Ontario Division of the Canadian Union of Public Employees.

Records of the National Union of the Canadian Union of Public Employees have been received and described by the National Archives of Canada, reference code MG 28 I 2345. A finding aid for the records of the National Union has been received by the Archives of Ontario, and may be ordered by requesting MU 2363, Fiche #379.
