Scope and Content

Fonds consists of records created and accumulated by the Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association (ORMTA).

Textual records include ORMTA meeting minutes, administrative files, correspondence, licensing records, financial records, records concerning Canada Music Week, ORMTA Archivist's files, biographical records of ORMTA members, ORMTA convention and annual meeting programmes, ORMTA publications and ORMTA records concerning the Canadian federal music tax.

Photographs include images of past ORMTA members, the majority of which were included in the ORMTA fiftieth anniversary history project in 1986. Also included are images of the ORMTA booth at the Canadian National Exhibition, ORMTA annual conventions, and ORMTA activities (e.g.: bus trip).

The majority of the sound and moving image records consist of oral history interviews with members of the ORMTA conducted in 1976 by Mrs. Jean Collins, President of the Toronto Branch of ORMTA. Other records concern "Fifty Years", a presentation of the history of ORMTA, as well as a radio interview with ORMTA president Shirley Knautz about taxes on music lessons.

Artifacts include ORMTA ribbons and name tags.
