Fonds consists of administrative records of the Workers' Educational Association, and records arising from the association's activities in education. Fonds includes: minutes; correspondence, circulars, and memoranda (mostly that of Drummond Wren as association Secretary- Organizer); a visitor's register; financial records (including cancelled cheques, cash books, ledger, invoices, and a receipt book); records of educational programs (including course applications, attendance rolls, course evaluations, and some motion picture film); periodicals, photographs (snapshots, enlargements, and panoramic views of association staff, buildings, and summer school activities); and reference material (including pamphlets, brochures, government publications, and periodicals).
The Workers' Educational Association was first founded in England in 1903 as an instrument to bring together labour and education. The Canadian association was founded in Toronto, Ontario in 1918.
