Scope and Content

Fonds consists of radio broadcast scripts for the program "Bob Welch Reports from Queen's Park," speeches prepared by Welch from 1948 to 1985, and memorabilia from the 1971 Progressive Conservative Leadership Convention.

The radio broadcast scripts, 1964 to 1985, were prepared by Welch for the program, "Bob Welch Reports from Queen's Park", and broadcast weekly by St. Catharines radio station CKTB as a means of reporting to his constituents.

The speeches are primarily from Welch's political career spanning 1963 to 1985. There are also a small number of speeches that date from his earlier years at school and university, his years on the St. Catharines board of education, and from his service for his local Anglican church and diocese.

The speeches are arranged chronologically and two indices reflect two time periods. The bulk of the speeches are numbered in chronological order from 1 to 1529, roughly corresponding to Welch's time in Cabinet from 1967 to 1985. These speeches are indexed in a subject card index and black bound folders. One box of speeches, numbered 3001 to 3236, dates from the 1940s to the 1970s. Most of these speeches pre-date his Queen's Park activities and are indexed chronologically in two black bound folders. Speeches 1530 to 3000 were not included in the donations.

The fonds also includes some of Bob Welch's materials created during the 1971 Progressive Conservative Leadership Convention, including speaking notes, convention kits, and lists of delegates.
