Fonds contains correspondence between various members of the Langton family, note books of letters copied by Thomas Langton, a typescript manuscript of Early Days in Upper Canada, journals of Mrs. Thomas Langton and Anne Langton, miscellaneous poetry, genealogies, notes, and pamphlets. The fonds also contains many paintings and watercolours by Anne Langton, including miniature portraits, watercolours, and sketch books. Artworks by William Langton are also represented, as are many works by unknown artists.

The John Langton family was involved in art, public service and writing in Upper Canada during the nineteenth and early twentieth century.
John Langton (1808-1894) was a provincial and national politician in Canada during the latter half of the nineteenth century, serving as Auditor-General and Deputy Minister of Finance.
William Langton (fl. 1837-1846) was the brother of Canadian politician John Langton, and lived in England where he kept in close correspondence with family in Upper Canada during the mid-nineteenth century.
Anne Langton was an nineteenth-century artist who worked in the genres of portrait miniature painting on ivory and landscape sketching on paper.
William Alexander Langton (1854-1933) was the son of politician John Langton, and published a collection of his father's letters in 1926 entitled "Early Days in Upper Canada".
Hugh Hornby Langton (1862-1953) was the youngest son of John Langton, and prepared a typescript manuscript for a new edition of his father's letters, "Early Days in Upper Canada", as well as publishing much of the material in Anne Langton's journals and letters in 1950 under the title "A Gentlewoman in Upper Canada".
