This diffusion material consists of microfilm copies of ship's passengers lists held by the National Archives of Canada. These lists were submitted by ship captains to immigration authorities in ports of entrance, and forwarded to the federal Department of Immigration and Citizenship (or its predecessors). Lists may include passengers' names, ages and place of origin.
The material also includes lists of Canada-bound passengers submitted to Canadian consular authorities for American ports, registers of entrants at "ports" of entry on the Canada-United States border, as well as indexes of passenger
