Scope and Content

Series consists of records created and maintained by the Office of Francophone Affairs in carrying out its functions pertaining to the provision of French-language services and relations between the government of Ontario and the Franco-Ontarian communities.

Topics documented in this series include linguistic rights, the provision of French-language services, French-language services policies and procedures, designated bilingual positions within the civil service, the development of and support to francophone communities, relation between the Government and the francophone communities; and the internal operations of the Office.

Records include correspondence between the Office, the Minister responsible for Francophone Affairs, other Ministries, MPPs, MPs, other jurisdictions, community organizations and members of the public; speeches by the Minister and Office staff; Minister briefing notes, issue sheets and house briefings; agendas and minutes of Office, branch and interministerial committee meetings; Cabinet submissions; copies of petitions; invitations and responses; policy memoranda; and various administrative records.

Access to these records is governed by the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. Requests for access to records 100 years old or less must be submitted in writing to the Information and Privacy Unit of the Archives of Ontario.
