Scope and Content

Series mainly consists of correspondence and accounting records compiled by the Official Guardian's Branch while supervising the guardianship of the Dionne quintuplets.

The subject files and letterbooks contain correspondence to and from the Official Guardian about all aspects of the Dionne guardianship including the negotiation and signing of promotional contracts. The accounting records consist of: invoices for goods and services (called "vouchers") submitted to the Dionne guardians for payment; accounting ledgers used to record payments, receipts and running balances; and periodic statements of account showing how the children's income was spent. Other types of records included in this series are: a daily log kept by the nursing staff and the journal of Official Guardian P.D. Wilson.

The subject files are arranged alphabetically by file title while the letterbooks are arranged chronologically. The vouchers are arranged in numerical order apparently based on their order of entry in the general ledger book.

Access to these records is governed by the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. Requests for access to records 100 years old or less must be submitted in writing to the Information and Privacy Unit of the Archives of Ontario.
