Ontario Government Record Series RG 22-4286
57 centimetres of textual records
Series consists of annual returns of baptisms, deaths and marriages made by ministers residing in the County of Perth and filed by the Clerk of the Peace (after 1869, acting as Division Registrar) as well as related registers, indexes and record books.
Baptismal returns typically list the name of the child and parents, the date of birth and the date of baptism.
Marriage returns list all the marriages solemnized by a minister in a single year. The returns typically list the name, age, residence, and place of birth of both the bride and groom, the names of their parents and the witnesses and the date of the marriage. In addition to the marriage returns, some ministers submitted returns listing baptisms and/or burials at which they officiated during a year.
Burial returns usually list the name and age of the deceased, the date of death, the date of burial, the names of parents (for children) and the place of residence. The registers are arranged chronologically by the date the return was filed by the Clerk of the Peace as opposed to the date of the event.
For records relating to post-1869 births, marriages and deaths, see RG 80 (Office of the Registrar General).
