Ontario Government Record Series RG 22-204
73 volumes of textual records
Series consists of registers, also known as probate and administration books, which contain the court's copy of all grants of probate (in estates with wills) and administration (estates without wills) issued by the Surrogate Court of the Gore District (1816-1849), the United Counties of Wentworth and Halton (1850-1851; 1853-1854), the United Counties of Wentworth, Halton and Brant (1852) and the County of Wentworth (1855-). Until 1892, the Registers also contain copies of grants of guardianship issued by the court. All volumes are indexed although during the period prior to 1859 the name of the executor was, in some cases, entered into the index instead of the name of the estate. After October 1858, each entry has a number added into the left margin, these are estate file numbers.
