Ontario Government Record Series RG 1-4
1 volume of textual records
Series consists of a register of memorials, petitions, and letters which were referred for action to the Surveyor General's Office by Government House (the Lieutenant-Governor's Office).
Although most entries in the register relate to petitions for land, there are also requests for locations and leases and for copies of deeds. The register appears to have been kept to monitor work flow and performance within the Office.
Entries include: the name of the correspondent; the date of the correspondence; the date of the referral from Government House; the date of the Surveyor General's report and return to Government House or Council; notations concerning any delay in the Surveyor General's Office; and remarks. Entries are arranged chronologically.
In 1835 the format of the entries was changed. Entries now consisted of: the name of the correspondent; the date of the correspondence; date of referral; date of receipt in the Surveyor General's Office; date of report; the office to which the report was forwarded; the subject of the correspondence; and an explanation of any delays in the Surveyor General's Office in responding.
Series RG 1-4 formerly was Series RG 1 A-I-3, Volume 1.
