Fonds consists of the original and typescript copies of two personal diaries of John Thomson, written 1821- 1824 and 1833-1838. One diary, written in 1821-1824 during Thomson's naval service, contains references to: Thompson's voyage to the Mediterranean, the Greek and Turkish Wars, and politics. The second diary, written 1833- 1838 in Upper Canada, includes references to: Thomson's voyage from England, the Rebellion of 1837 and social customs in Upper Canada.
John Thomson (fl. 1821-1838) was a British Royal Navy purser who later became a farmer in Orillia, Simcoe County, Ontario during the early eighteenth century.
