Scope and Content

Series consists of fieldbooks containing astronomical calculations recorded by David Thompson in his capacity as surveyor for Britain under Articles VI and VII of the Treaty of Ghent.

Signed at Ghent, Belgium by British and American Commissioners in 1814, the Treaty officially ended the War of 1812, providing for the mutual restoration of all occupied territory and establishment of a joint commission to settle questions concerning the boundary between British North America and the United States.

Series also includes field and traverse notes of Thompson's 1819 survey of the Niagara River.
