Scope and Content

Series consists of records created by officers of the Giuseppe Verdi Lodge of the Order Sons of Italy of Canada in the administration of membership and other lodge activities.

These records document the following functions of the lodge: local-level administration of membership in the Order Sons of Italy and the Mutual Benefit Society; administration of lodge finances including payment of dues; organization of and participation in conventions, special events and meetings; participation in charitable activities; advocacy for the Italian-Canadian community; and regulatory activities, such as the creation and amendment of the constitution and bylaws.

Series has been arranged into categorical groupings by record type. These categories are: correspondence (1915-1986), financial records (1951-1982), membership lists (1919-1981), membership admission forms (1937-1987), death certificates (1979), insurance records (1934-1968), clippings (1946-1984), ephemera (1946-1990), pamphlets (1957, 1981), and photographs (1926-1986).

Administrative History or Biographical Sketch

The Giuseppe Verdi Lodge, based in Sault Ste. Marie, was the founding lodge of the Order Sons of Italy of Canada.
