Fonds consists of the official records of Niagara, including Council Minutes, 1845-1880; By-laws, 1845-1900; Assessment and Collectors Rolls, 1845- 1899; Council Papers, 1836-1914; Vital Statistics, 1848-1910; and miscellaneous committee and administrative records, 1849-1945. The Council papers are arranged annually and within each year by these subject headings: General Correspondence, Election Papers, Petitions, School Papers, Legal Papers, Financial Papers, Tenders and Reports of Committees and Officials. The fonds also includes four original broadsides, ca. 1845, containing public notices for the Town of Niagara.
The Town of Niagara, Lincoln county, Ontario, was incorporated under Canada Statutes 1845, Chapter 62 and confirmed by the terms of the Baldwin Act, Chapter 81, Canada Statutes 1849.
