Fonds consists of the official records of Johnstown, including District Council Minutes, 1842-1860; By-laws, 1842- 1859; District Council Papers, 1842-1849; Clerks Letterbook, 1842-1876; Sundry Papers, 1842-1849; Census and Assessment, 1796-1850; and Enumerators Miscellaneous Correspondence, Papers and Census Aggregates, 1797-1824.
This fonds includes assessment and other records relating to several lower tier municipalities including Augusta; Montague; Wolford; Bastard; Kitley; Bathurst; Beckwith; Brockville; Burgess; Elmsley; Crosby; Drummond; Edwardsburgh; Elizabethtown; Escott; Gananoque; Golbourne; Gower; March; Marlborough; Nepean; Oxford on the Rideau; Prescott; and Yonge.
The Johnstown District was established under Statutes of Upper Canada, 1798, Chapter 5, effective January 1, 1800.
