Scope and Content

This fonds consists of the official records of the Gore District, including By-laws, 1842-1849; Tax Registers, 1820- 1850; Schedule of Lands, 1820-1856; Cash Books, 1846-1856; and Census and Assessment, 1816-1850.

This fonds includes assessment and other records relating to several lower tier municipalities including Ancaster; Beverly; Binbrook; Brantford; Big Creek; Dumfries; Eramosa; Erin; Garafraxa; Glanford; Guelph; Nassagaweya; Nelson; Onondaga; Puslinch; Saltfleet; Trafalgar; Tuscarora; Waterloo; Wilmot; and Woolwich.

Administrative History or Biographical Sketch

The Gore District was established under Upper Canada Statutes 1816, Chapter 19, effective March 22, 1816.
