Fonds consists mainly of correspondence with authors and political figures. Fonds also includes diaries, commercial records, scrapbooks, newspapers, periodicals, as well as some maps and photographs. The records document William Kirby's career as an author plus his interest in the history of the Niagara region, his connections with the Conservative Party and the development of Ontario and Canada.
The fonds has been arranged into 13 Series.
William Kirby (1817-1906), best known as the author of Le Chien D'Or, or The Golden Dog, was a newspaper editor and local politician in the Niagara area of Ontario in the nineteenth century.
