Scope and Content

Series consists of 38 holograph notebooks kept by G.A. Farini while he was interned in Germany during the First World War. They primarily contain synopses of daily events that occurred during the war as translated by Farini from German news sources. They include accounts of war events on Turkish, Russian, Italian and Western fronts. Additionally, some notebooks contain direct translations of news stories and soldiers' personal accounts and many notebooks contain news clippings including articles, images, and maps. Series also includes a cover sheet for piano sheet music.

A few items are in fragile condition, particularly the piano sheet music cover sheet as well as some of the unbound records.

Notes

Title is based on the content of the series.

Notebooks have been arranged in approximate chronological order. Notebooks without a specific date (i.e., dating sometime between 1914 and 1918) are located at the end of the series.

Some materials are in German, particularly the news clippings.

Former Codes

Series was originally numbered F 1073, series VI.

Containers were originally numbered MU 1007, MU 1008, MU 1009, MU 1010 and MU 1011.
