Scope and Content

Fonds consists of records of the Business and Professional Women's Clubs of Ontario, including minutes, correspondence, reports, briefs, pamphlets, clippings, published newsletters, constitutions, membership lists, notes, and financial documents created by the Club or found in its custody.

These materials have been arranged upon receipt into several series. Many of these reflect the original order which was given to the documents as they were created, others represent groupings of like materials found throughout the records. Due to frequent alterations in the filing systems of the organization, several overlaps between series exist.

This fonds also contains records created by other organizations. These include records from the International Federation of Business and Professional Women, the Canadian Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs, and the Lakeshore and Weston Business and Professional Women's Clubs. These records were in the custody of the Ontario Club prior to the transfer of records to the Archives of Ontario.

The activities of the Ontario Club are quite well documented in this fonds for the period following 1949. Minutes of the Board of Directors, which include General Annual Meetings, are mostly complete from 1949-1971 and 1976-1986. Much of the work of the organization was conducted by committees, and the committee files are quite extensive for the 1960's, with some coverage of the 1950's and 1970's. These include a wealth of information about the club's policies and procedures. Generally, the period of the 1962 to 1972 is most strongly represented in the fonds.

Administrative History or Biographical Sketch

Associated Material

The Canadian Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs have deposited a large group of papers documenting the federation's activities between 1930 and 1973 at Library and Archives Canada in Ottawa. These have been assigned the call number "MG 28, 1- 55"

Related Material

The Archives of Ontario has the papers from three of the clubs in Ontario: the Toronto Club (F 2085), the Guelph Club (F 227), and the Chatham Club (F 215). In addition, a group of papers relating to the history of the Ontario Federation was created by club historian Kay Marks and has been transferred to the archives.
