Scope and Content

Series consists of registers and related indexes pertaining to the issuing of warrants and certificates for emigrant passage. Employers wishing to hire farm labourers or domestic servants and those wishing to bring remaining family members to the province, applied to the provincial government for a passage warrant. The warrants would authorize the steamship compnay to provide passage to the individual or family and indicate that the fare would be paid by the sponsor or by the Department of Immigration.

Volumes 1 and 4 are arranged chronologically by the date of application and each entry was assigned an application number. Volumes 2 and 3 act as indexes, and provide access by the name of the applicant and of the sponsored emigrants. The application number shown in the index corresponds to that found in the registers.
