RG 1-160 Warrants for land grants - military
Sub-series consists of registers to the warrants for land grants to discharged soldiers.
Volume RG 1-160-2-1: This volume, entitled "Warrants of reduced officers and discharged soldiers and seamen since 1814," covers the period 1799 (Warrant # A) to 1832 (Warrant # Z65). Entries record: the warrant number; the name, place of residence, and military rank and regiment of the grantee; the authority under which the grant was given; the order-in-council number (and, in some cases, the regulation applying to the grant); the acreage and location (township, concession and lot) of the land granted; the date the ticket of location was issued; the Attorney General's fiat number; and a description number. Some entries contain later information relating to the issuance of scrip certificates, rulings by the Heir and Devisee Commission, etc.
Bound into the front of the volume is a copy of the General Orders issued by John Harvey, Deputy Adjutant General's Office, Quebec, 18 May 1816, concerning the "reduction" of regiments in Canada and the allotment of land to discharged soldiers and seamen and reduced officers. Copies of other relevant general orders and orders from the Prince Regent and the War Office are also bound into the volume.
