RG 1-155 Warrants for land grants (gratuitous) and fiats for land grants (A.A.)
Sub-series is composed of individual warrants for land grants (gratuitous) and fiats for land grants (A.A.) The warrants - gratuitous consist of orders-in-council authorising the Surveyor General to locate the settler on a piece of land.
The following information may be recorded on the warrants: the date of the warrant; the name, place of birth, occupation and place of residence of the grantee as well as their period of residency in Upper Canada; the type of grant (gratuitous); and the regulations under which the grant was issued.
The following information may be recorded on the verso of the warrant: the location of the grant (lot, concession, and township); details concerning the issuance of location tickets; and information relating to any subsequent assignment related to the location. The fiats-A.A. contain similar information and may include affidavits relating to the completion of settlement duties. Location tickets are attached to some fiats and warrants.
In contrast to other types of fiats, each fiat-A.A. covers multiple land grants, although the name of each individual grantee and the location of their grant is noted.
