Scope and Content

Fonds consists of administrative and other records of the Provincial Council of Women of Ontario. Included are minutes of the Council, and of annual meetings, semi-annual meeting, and sub-executive meetings. Fonds also includes various records arising from annual meetings, including: agendas, notices, correspondence, minutes, briefs, resolutions, nomination papers, lists of officers, reports from local councils and committees, speeches, presentations, travel and accommodation arrangements, annual reports, financial statements and publicity.

Fonds also contains annual reports, correspondence, constitutions, resolutions financial records, a procedures manual, mailing lists, and records arising from various projects of the Council (including book publishing, case loads in the courts, committee on poverty, and other projects).

Also included are records of some local Ontario Councils, including Weston (minutes, constitution and bylaws, financial records, correspondence, resolutions and scrapbooks), Peterborough (a history of the Peterborough Council), Hamilton (miscellaneous records), and Kingston (a history of the Kingston Council with supplements and an annual report).

Fonds also contains yearbooks and other publications of the International Council, the National Council, and the Provincial Council, as well as reference material, including leaflets, pamphlets, and newspaper clippings.

Fonds consists of the following series: Minutes, 1920- 1982; Annual Meetings Files, 1926-1973; President's Records, 1951-1972; Corresponding Secretary's Correspondence, 1950-1960; Administrative Records, 1921- 1976; Briefs, 1963-1994; Local Councils Records, 1931- 1964; Annual Reports, 1969-1995; Publications, 1967; and Reference Material, 1929-1972. The Provincial Council of Women of Ontario was established in order to act as a voice of women on various social issues affecting women and society as a whole.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
Fonds was acquired from a representative of the Provincial Council of Women in two accessions: the first in March 1974, and the second in October 1995. Another accrual was acquired in July 2003.
