Scope and Content

Series consists of files that contain the original documentation filed with the Prince Edward County Surrogate Court in order to obtain a grant of Letters Probate or Letters of Administration.

Series also contains two boxes of miscellaneous surrogate court records from the Picton County Courthouse dating between 1864 and 1930.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
Records were transferred to the Archives from the Picton Courthouse.

The original estate files for 1859-1930 are on loan to the Prince Edward County Archives, Box 1078, 44 Union Street, Picton, Ontario, K0K 2T0. The estate files after 1968 are still under the control of the Prince Edward County Courthouse. The estate files for 1979-1980 have been transferred to the Archives of Ontario.
