Series consists of registers, also known as probate and administration books, which contain the court's copy of all grants of probate (in estates with wills) and administration (estates without wills) for the Wellington District (1840-1849), the County of Waterloo (1850-1851), the United Counties of Wellington, Waterloo and Grey (1852-1853), the United Counties of Wellington and Grey (1853) and the County of Wellington (1854-).
Prior to late 1858, the format of the Registers consisted of copies of the wills, the Registrar's certification that the will had been proved and affidavits of witnesses. Administration entries include a petition and administrator's bonds. From late 1858, the Registers take on the standard grant format.
