Fonds consists mainly of records arising from James Young's work as a general merchant in Georgetown, Ontario as Manager of the Berlin branch of the Consolidated Bank of Canada, and as the manager of the Cornwall Mills of the Toronto Paper Manufacturing Company.
Fonds includes correspondence relating to the operation of his store in Georgetown, to Young's other business activities, to the Belleville and Berlin (Kitchener) branches of the Consolidated Bank, and to the operation of the paper mill in Cornwall.
Fonds also includes bills, statements, invoices, and other financial records from the Georgetown store, as well as bills of lading from the transportation of supplies from the Georgetown store through Oakville and Toronto and via the Watertown, Rome and Cape Vincent Railway in New York State.
Fonds has been arranged into three series.
James Young (1820-1888) was a business manager in Georgetown, Belleville, Kitchener (then Berlin), Dunnville, and Cornwall, Ontario in the latter half of the nineteenth century.
