Scope and Content

Series consists of registers, also known as probate and administration books, which contain the Victoria County Surrogate Court's copy of all grants of probate (in estates with wills) and administration (estates without wills).

Until 1902, these volumes also include grants of guardianship. In the case of grants of probate, a copy of the will is also included with the grant. Beginning in 1896, grant (i.e. estate file) numbers are added in the margins next to the entry. Each volume is indexed up to 1914.

After 1914, the General Surrogate Index on microfilm GS 2, reel 193 should be used to obtain a Register reference (grant number).
