Grey County Surrogate Court registers

About these records

Title
Grey County Surrogate Court registers
Dates of Creation
1859-1938
Physical Description

41 volumes of textual records

Scope and Content

Series consists of registers, also known as probate and administration books, which contain the Grey County Surrogate Court's copy of all grants of probate (in estates with wills) and administration (estates without wills). Until 1902, these volumes also contain grants of guardianship.

None of these volumes is indexed, except Registers E and I. Beginning with Register H, estate file numbers are added in the margins next to the grant entry. This means that using the Index on microfilm GS 2, reel 45, researchers can locate a specific grant in the Registers. The estate file number is listed in these indexes under the Non-Contentious Business Book column.
