Ontario Government Record Series RG 22-183
13 volumes of textual records
Series consists of copies of grants of probate and administration for the Surrogate Court for the Ottawa District (1823-1849) and the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (1850-). From 1913, they also contain grants of guardianship. Registers, also known as probate and administration books, contain the court's copy of all grants of probate (in estates with wills) and administration (estates without wills) issued by the Probate Court and the local Surrogate Courts. Prior to 1858, there appears to have been no standard format established for the Registers. As a result, the contents and organisation of the Registers for the early Surrogate Courts can vary. After 1858, a standard format was laid down.
