Ontario Government Record Series RG 22-194
42 volumes of textual records
Series consists of registers, also known as probate and administration books, which contain the court's copy of all grants of probate (in estates with wills) and administration (estates without wills) issued by the Surrogate Court for the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. Until 1904, the Registers also contain copies of grants of guardianship issued by the court.
All the volumes are indexed. However, during 1800-1859, the name of the executor was sometimes entered into the index instead of the name of the deceased.
After October 1858, each entry has a number entered into the left margin. These are estate file numbers, and can be used as a cross-reference to the estate files in Series RG 22-198 (Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry United Counties Surrogate Court estate files).
