Scope and Content

Collection consists of materials relating to James Davison and includes newspaper clippings by and about James Davison in addition to an illuminated presentation to him from the Guelph Collegiate Institute.

Administrative History or Biographical Sketch

James Davison (1848-1935) was a teacher and principal of Guelph Collegiate Institute, Guelph, Wellington County, Ontario, 1892-1929. Davison received his higher education at Port Hope High School and later taught there and at Whitby High School. In 1878, Davison joined the staff of Guelph High School as Mathematical master and, in 1892, was appointed Principal of Guelph Collegiate Institute. Between 1923 and 1929, he would serve as the institute's Principal Emeritus. For a time, Davison was also President of the Ontario Education Association.
