Notes

The Hudson's Bay Company (1670-present) and Northwest Company (1779-1821) were the two dominant forces in the North American fur trade during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. In 1821, the two merged under the title of The Hudson's Bay Company.

The Fur Trade holfings originally consisted of F 431 (Fur trade collection) and F 471 (Fur Trade, Indian, Explorers-Miscellaneous Collection). Following re-processing project in 2012, the two collections were merged and the F 471 reference code was retained.
