Fonds F 9
10.7 metres of textual records
220 photographs : negatives and prints
116 metres of motion picture film (11 minutes) : black and white print, silent film ; 16 mm
Fonds consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings, pamphlets, reports, photographs, and 1 motion picture film created or accumulated by George S. Henry, his son George W. Henry, and his son's wife, Margaret Dodds Snell Henry.
The largest portion of the fonds documents the political activities of George S. Henry, and also includes a considerable amount of correspondence and other documents illustrating the family's activities within itself and in business. Besides family matters, subjects covered include the administration of Oriole Lodge Farm and the Henry dairy herd of Holstein cattle, as well as the participation of the Henry family, particularly George W., in the activities of the Holstein-Friesian Association of Canada.
Many of these records were gathered while Henry was Premier and Minister of Education between 1930 and 1934, although they include earlier material which was evidently kept there because of its relationship to contemporary problems. Other records were gathered during Henry's tenure of office as Minister of Highways and Public Works. These materials consist, for the most part, of files which were arranged under rough geographical titles dealing with routine matters of road or Public Works construction, including the related problems of patronage, purchase, settlement of claims, expropriation, and sectional pressure. All these records have since been re-arranged into a strict chronological order and are now described in Series F 9-1.
Scrapbooks documenting the activities, speeches, and career of George S. Henry also form part of the fonds. Photographic records accumulated by George S. Henry include a photo album on the progress of the Whitney block, and photos relating to his political career and his family.
The records of Margaret Henry document her genealogical work, especially the history and genealogy of the Webb, Dodds, Snell and Sibbald families, with some additional information about Matthews, Doan and Haines family connections. They also contain a number of photographs of the Dodds family of Bolton, Ontario.
George W. Henry's records within the fonds consist of genealogical data pertaining to George W. and Margaret Henry and 1 motion picture film featuring the family, and possibly George S. Henry.

The papers relating to Margaret Henry were originally arranged as a separate fonds at the Archives of Ontario (formerly entitled the Margaret Henry Papers); they were merged with those of George S. Henry (formerly entitled the George S. Henry Papers) in 1992 when additional materials were received from George W. Henry. The title of the fonds was changed to the George S. Henry family fonds to reflect both the merger and the new accession.
