Scope and Content

Fonds consists of glass plate negatives depicting the towns of Fort Frances and Lavallee, Ontario, and surrounding areas during the early 1900s. In addition to a large number of portraits, this fonds covers a variety of subjects and images of life in Northern Ontario at this time. Subjects include: lumbering, agriculture, transportation, housing and social activities, including sporting teams and activities.

Copy prints and digital images are available for many of the negatives in this fonds.

Administrative History or Biographical Sketch

William Hampden Tenner was a farmer situated between the Ontario towns of Emo and Devlin, and was an amateur photographer.

Custodial History

Fonds was donated to the Archives of Ontario in 1985 by Jim Cummings of the Fort Frances Times.

The fonds had been stored in a basement during the 1940s and 1950s.
